Compress a PDF free — in your browser, with no upload

Make a PDF smaller without sending it anywhere. Lossless mode rewrites the file more efficiently and keeps text selectable. Strong mode re-encodes each page as a JPEG image, which shrinks scanned documents dramatically — at the cost of the text no longer being selectable. The tool shows you the real before and after size, and tells you honestly when a file cannot be shrunk any further.

Your files never leave your browser

Other PDF sites upload your document to a server, then cap how many files you can process or ask you to pay. This one does the work on your own device in plain JavaScript — nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and there is no daily limit. Use a tool once and it keeps working with no connection at all afterwards.

What you can do

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends entirely on what is inside. A scanned document can often drop by 70–90% in strong mode. A PDF that is mostly text and already well produced may not shrink at all — and the tool will tell you that rather than pretending.

What is the difference between lossless and strong?

Lossless rewrites the file structure more efficiently and changes nothing you can see; text stays selectable. Strong converts every page into a JPEG image, which is far smaller for scans but means the text becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected or searched.

Is my file uploaded to compress it?

No. Compression happens in your browser, which is unusual — most compressors upload your document to a server. Nothing here is transmitted.

Why did my file get bigger?

That can happen in strong mode when the original is already efficient, for example a text-only PDF: turning crisp text into images adds data rather than removing it. The tool detects this and tells you to keep the original.

Will printing look the same?

Page dimensions are preserved exactly, so the layout and print size do not change. In strong mode, choose a higher DPI if you plan to print.

Is it free?

Completely — no account, no watermark and no daily cap.
